Ideal for prevention or as a support during colds and mild respiratory infections, this syrup helps to:

  • Relieve coughs: dry or wet, by facilitating expectoration
  • Soothe irritated throat
  • Protect respiratory tracts: thanks to thymol and carvacrol, active molecules of thyme
  • Offer a pleasant intake: honey makes the syrup sweet and easy to consume

Homemade thyme syrup recipe

Ingredients

  • 15 g of dried thyme leaves
  • 250 ml of water
  • 500 g of quality honey
  • Sterilized bottles for storage

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Thyme infusion
Infuse 15 g of dried thyme leaves in 250 ml of water, covered, for 10 to 15 minutes. Let it cool slightly, then strain. Measure the resulting liquid and add water if necessary to get exactly 250 ml. Pour into a saucepan.

  2. Incorporation of honey
Add 500 g of honey to the liquid. Mix gently until completely dissolved. Heat slightly if necessary, without exceeding a temperature (around 43 °C) that could alter the volatile compounds of thyme.

  3. Cooling and bottling
Once the honey is dissolved, let it cool covered, then pour into sterilized bottles. Label and store in the refrigerator.

Dosage and use

  • Prevention: 1 to 2 tablespoons each morning, especially during flu or cold season
  • In case of cough or infection: several doses per day, up to 1 spoon per hour if necessary
  • Storage: in the refrigerator, for several weeks

Tip

You can customize the syrup by adding other antitussive plants such as marshmallow, mallow, poppy, or mullein flower to enhance the soothing effect.
